About the event
SPECIAL OLYMPICS BASKETBALL SKILLS
Athletes, ages 8 and up, who are interested in competing in Basketball Skills (dribbling, passing, and shooting) may sign up for Special Olympics Basketball Skills. There will be an informational Zoom meeting Monday, October 24th at 7:00PM. The link for the meeting is below. Even if you are only interested in more information, I encourage you to attend the meeting. We will go over paperwork, practice/competition information, and current rules/policies. The roster will be capped at 24 athletes, and precedence will be given to athletes returning from the 2021-22 season. If we reach 24 athletes, a waiting list will be created on a first come, first served basis. I will issue the paperwork I need from you as you sign up.
Practice will take place on Mondays, based on venue availability at Shabbona School on School St. I'm still working out a timeframe, but it will be in the evening for 1 hour as usual. The first practice will be November 7th. Regional competition will be January 22nd in Evergreen Park, and State competition for those who qualify will be March 10-11, 2023 at ISU in Normal. TRANSPORTATION TO PRACTICES IS THE ATHLETE'S RESPONSIBILITY. The SC buses will be utilized for competitions.
Registration will close on October 28th. The cost for the entire season will be $15 and will be due with registration paperwork to me by November 3rd or you will not be able to attend practice.
Medical Forms must be valid through March 11, 2023. If you are not sure when your Medical expires, I can check that for you. If you need a new Medical, it must be turned in to me by November 9, 2022 or by the date your current Medical expires (whichever comes first), or you will not be able to compete. LATE PAPERWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!
Volunteer Assistant Coaches are needed at practices and competitions. Knowledge of basketball skills is not required. Even another set of eyes is helpful to keep our 4:1 athlete to coach ratio.
