2022 Special Olympics Bowling registration

2022 SPECIAL OLYMPICS BOWLING I am excited to announce our Special Olympics bowling season for bowlers ages 8 and up. Special Olympics bowling practice will take place on Tuesday evenings at 5:00pm starting June 14th at Echo Lanes in Morris. Kelly may continue hosting fun bowling on Thursday nights on dates yet to be determined. All participants who are interested in bowling will need to decide if they want to bowl in the Special Olympics competitions, practice every Tuesday, and commit to the entire season as they advance, OR bowl just for fun with Kelly on some Thursdays. (Kelly will send out information about fun bowling at a later date) Participants will NOT be able to do both SO and fun bowling during the Special Olympics season. The rest of the information below is only about Special Olympics competitive bowling. Athletes will choose either Ramp, Singles, Doubles, or Team. We will be back to 4 athletes per lane. I am setting a maximum of 60 bowlers on the roster for Special Olympics bowling, and a waiting list will be created if more than 60 athletes register. Masks are not required, but encouraged. Spectators will  be allowed at practices, but please limit it to drivers of athletes if at all possible. I'd still like to keep the size of the crowd to a minimum. Athletes will be responsible for their own transportation to practices. Special Connections will not provide transportation for practices, however the SC buses will be running for competitions. Food and drink will be available for purchase at the bowling alley, but please remember that you are still responsible to be on your lane when it's your turn. You may want to plan ahead and get to the bowling alley early to beat the ordering rush.  Bowlers who earn a gold medal at Regional will qualify to advance to Sectionals, and bowlers who earn a gold medal at Sectional will qualify to advance to State. The cost of bowling has increased over last year. The cost for the Regional session is $114; the cost for the Sectional session is $117; the cost for the State session is $78. Bowlers who do not advance to the next level are still welcome to continue practicing with the group, and must commit and pay for each session by each deadline. The same as the gold medal qualifiers. The dates and locations of the competitions are as follows:

Regional: Saturday, August 6th in Joliet

Sectional: Sunday, October 16th in Addison

State: Saturday, December 3rd in Peoria Special Olympics Medicals and Coach Class A Registrations must be valid through December 4th. If you need to know your Medical or Class A expiration date, let me know and I can get that information for you. New Medicals are due to me no later than June 21st. If I do not have it by that date, then you will not be able to compete. Coach Class A registrations must be completed by June 24th.  To register, go to specialconnections.org, call 815-545-3397, or respond to the email and let me know if you are registering as a ramp, single, doubles, or team athlete. If registering for doubles or team, please indicate your teammate(s) if you have that figured out. If you'd like to do doubles or team but do not have teammate(s) yet, please indicate that as well and I will help set you up with other athletes if there are any available. REGISTERING ON FACEBOOK WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR THIS SPORT. Athletes returning from 2021 will be given precedence on the roster. I will host a zoom meeting on Wednesday, May 18th at 7:30pm to go over details and paperwork, and to answer questions. Registration will close on May 24th. Paperwork is due by May 31st. The $114 fee for the Regional session is due by June 3rd. When you register, I will let you know what forms I need from you.
