Special Olympics Softball Skills Registration

SPECIAL OLYMPICS SOFTBALL SKILLS

Athletes ages 8 and up who are interested in learning and competing in softball skills (fielding, running the bases, batting & throwing) are invited to register. Coach Josie will be returning as Head Coach!

Zoom info meeting: Monday, April 22nd at 6:00PM. The link for the meeting is in the email. Even if you are only interested in more information, I encourage you to attend.

Roster: Will be limited to 15 Athletes on a first come, first served basis. Athletes returning from the 2023 season will be guaranteed their spot for the new season. If we reach 15, a waiting list will be created also on a first come, first served basis.

Practice: Once a week on Wednesdays starting 5/22, based on venue availability and weather-permitting, 7-8pm at Lions Park, 8865 McEvilly Rd Minooka. (Some practices may be held at the ball field off Misty Creek Dr in Minooka, everyone will be notified when that might happen) TRANSPORTATION TO PRACTICES IS EVERYONE'S OWN RESPONSIBILITY. Ride sharing can be worked out amongst yourselves.

Equipment: If you have a helmet, bat, and/or glove then you are welcome to bring them to use at practice. If you do not have any equipment there is no need to buy any. We will have extra equipment available for anyone who needs it.

Regional: Sunday, July 28th in Elgin. The SC buses can be used for competition. Those who earn a gold medal at Regional will advance to State in Springfield, Sept. 6th-7th.

Registration: Closes on May 8th. Paperwork/fees are due by the first practice on May 22nd, or you cannot practice. I will communicate what paperwork I'll need as registrations come in. The cost for the entire season is $20.00. Please register by replying to the email, signing up here on our website, or contacting Tina at 815-230-1877. All athletes are expected to complete the season, including Regional competition.

Medicals for Athletes: Must be valid through Sept. 7th, 2024. If you are not sure when your Medical expires, I can check that for you. If you need to renew, Medicals must be turned in to me by June 5th, or you will not be able to compete. New, first time Medicals should be completed ASAP.

Class A for Assistant Coaches: New coaches must complete the Class A registration ASAP, including the background check for those 18 and older. If you already have a Class A, then I can check your expiration date for you. There may be some paperwork to complete as well, and I will communicate that as volunteers notify me of their interest to help.
