About the event
Athletes, ages 8 and up, interested in competing in 5 vs 5 basketball, may sign up for Special Olympics Team Basketball. We will have a zoom meeting for all players and coaches on Thursday, October 7th at 7:00PM. At the meeting we will go over paperwork, practice/game/competition information, and current rules/policies. Uniforms will be issued during practices. We will have 1 or 2 teams with a maximum of 15 athletes per team with precedence given to athletes returning from the 2019-20 season. A waiting list will be created for athletes new to this sport on a first come, first served basis. Selections from the waiting list will be made on October 7th based on roster availability.
We will have practice/practice games on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting October 19th, from 6:00-7:30PM at Saratoga School on Rt 47 in Morris. The practice games will be held at Saratoga, and at other various locations throughout Region E. (time may vary depending on opposing team schedules) TRANSPORTATION TO SARATOGA AND OTHER FACILITIES ARE EACH ATHLETE'S RESPONSIBILITY. Special Connections buses are not in use. The regional competition will be January 30th, 2022, (location TBD) and the State Tournament, if our team(s) advance, will be March 11-13 at ISU Bloomington/Normal. All athletes must commit to the entire season. Special Connections will cover the cost for all athletes to participate this season. Completed paperwork will be due no later than October 14th, or you will not be able to attend practice. Medical Forms need to be valid through March 14th, 2022. If you need one, it is due no later than November 11th, or you will not be able to compete. I can help you figure out if you need a new Medical Form. LATE PAPERWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
If you would like to help as an assistant coach, complete knowledge of team basketball is not required. Even extra pairs of eyes in the stands would be helpful to keep our 4 to 1 athletes to coach ratio. If you are interested in helping, please let me know and attend the zoom meeting as well.
